The time has come to reveal our 2022 calendar, along with advance notice of a pair of very special events the year after that, to commemorate the CSCC's 20th anniversary, in 2023. We have booked more track time this season, to reduce the amount of combined races and numbers of reserves. Let's talk you through it:
February Track Days, dates TBC. 12 months ago we stated we would run the club's first ever track day, to showcase and promote the club to potential new members, as well as to say thank you to our existing members. In the end it didn't happen, but such had been the demand that we are aiming to run two days in February, for members, their supporters and those new to the club alike. More details to follow soon.
Wednesday 23rd March, Snetterton 300 Test Day. Ten days before our racing season formerly begins, is our cost-effective, pre-season test day, for race licence holders and race cars.
Saturday 2nd/Sunday 3rd April, Snetterton 300. As always, our racing begins on the 3 mile layout, where the large, 45 car grid is always popular with you. We are welcoming the new, headline GB4 single-seater category, for it's opening rounds here.
Saturday 23rd/Sunday 24th April, Thruxton.
A proper racers circuit, the UK's fastest track, with acres of run off. The tarmac is grippy, wet or dry, should we experience an April shower. A friendly circuit team and no shortage of paddock space are two more pleasing aspects of this venue. As a club we are fortunate to once again secure one of the few available dates at Thruxton.
Saturday 14th/Sunday 15th May, Anglesey Coastal.
Whilst traditionally a venue we visit every few years, this is the first time we have raced here in back-to-back seasons. Anglesey has grown in popularity, as word has spread about just how good it is. Fantastic scenery and beaches, matched with a wide circuit, where overtaking is possible. We will once again offer you a weekend, double header format, with dinner on Saturday night. No night racing this year, but a return to the more popular Coastal circuit and its 'Corkscrew' series of downhill bends.
Sunday 22nd May, Brands Hatch GP.
The first of our 'Grand Prix out rounds' takes place on the Grand Prix layout at Brands Hatch. We offer this in rotation to each series in turn. In 2021 every series had the chance to race here, therefore we have gone full circle and it is once again the turn of the Co-ordSport Tin Tops to race here.
Saturday 28th/Sunday 29th May, Donington Park GP.
Supporting the British GT Championship package, the Liqui Moly Slicks Series will qualify on Saturday and race on Sunday, in front of a large crowd and live stream audience at home.
BH Friday 3rd/Saturday 4th June, Brands Hatch Indy.
Held on the extend Bank Holiday Queen's Jubilee week, the Indy is ever popular with you to race on and arguably the best place to bring your supporters to spectate. The short, 1.2 mile lap packs enough interest and challenge to keep you coming back.
Thursday 23rd - Sunday 26th June, Spa Francorchamps.
With the double threat of Brexit and Covid, we worried that this highlight of the CSCC calendar might be lost to us forever. With support from our Belgian friends, and a greater understanding of what is/isn't required for entering the mainland with our race cars, we return to this world famous circuit with a renewed enthusiasm. More details and practical help from the club will follow, but we now believe that for the majority of private entries it should be very nearly as simple and cost-effective as it ever was, to race here, with the CSCC. We are aiming to take entries from all eleven CSCC series and are once again the UK promoters of the headline Spa 3 Hours race .
Saturday 16th/Sunday 17th July, Castle Combe.
Just a handful of miles from club HQ and where CSCC team member Jo worked for a decade, we love our independent, West Country neighbour. Another of those 'proper' drivers circuits, barely changed over the decades, aside from the addition of a pair of chicanes a few decades back. Castle Combe is one of the few venues left that still attracts good numbers of spectators to club events. The welcome addition of soft 'cushions' facing the tyre wall has greatly reduced the level of damage at Quarry corner and elsewhere, should talent run out.
BH Monday 29th August, Oulton Park International.
After a summer break, the action continues on one of the best circuits we have in the country. It's long and packed with features, enough said.
Saturday 10th/Sunday 11th September, Donington Park National.
Judging by the huge support you have given the club here in recent years, this appears to be your current favourite UK track. We can see why, it's flowing, undulating and with places to overtake. Acres of tarmac paddock and close Motorway access helps of course.
Saturday 8th/Sunday 9th October, Silverstone National.
After successive years on the International, and this year on the Grand Prix layout, we have enjoyed some epic racing and monsterous grids. We have also listened to those of you who don't like the compromises this brings, by being in the Wing paddock. Therefore, after a seven year absence we return to the National layout, with its more accommodating Heritage paddock. An aerial view of the National might resemble a triangle with a bit of a wiggle, but it's capable of delivering some excellent racing, one of the reasons the BTCC and other higher profile events stick to this circuit.
Saturday 29th October, Cadwell Park Full Circuit.
Once again, this is a track we typically visit every few seasons and yet here we are, back again after a successful foray in 2021. At the end of the meeting we had so many compliments from you and witnessed some thrilling action, that it made sense to re-book for you. Yes, it's narrower than Silverstone, but it makes up for it in character and it's actually a long circuit at almost 2.2 miles, with space to spread out. The final race of the day for the Verum Builders Open Series will be scheduled to finish just after sunset, so whilst not strictly a night race, you'll be wanting to eat a few carrots beforehand.
A notable absence from the calendar is Le Mans, an event that is sadly, once again postponed for two years. With it coinciding with a French election period, track activity will be suspended at Le Mans at the very time we were due to race here. We will continue to work with our friends at HVM Racing to offer this to you in future years, aiming for 2024.
Saturday 4th/Sunday 5th November 2023, Daytona International Speedway.
2023 is the Classic Sports Car Club's 20th anniversary and we wanted to celebrate it with you in style. Our membership is a broad church and for some, a special event like this will require sacrifice and saving, so we wanted to give you that extra year of notice. We last took CSCC members to Daytona in 2007; the club has changed and grown since that time, so it's pleasing to see that many of those members that crossed the Atlantic are still racing with us.
The HSR Classic 24 Hour event builds up over the preceding week, with all manner of support races, with categories for every type of car that currently races with the CSCC. Using the full circuit, that includes the super-fast banked corners of the oval, together with the twisty infield, that has witnessed so many fantastic 24 hour races over the years. You (and your family) won't forget this visit to Florida in a hurry. You will have many questions for us in the coming 24 months, but for now we'll say that our
intention is to offer members a package that includes return shipping of your car and spares, together with Carnet and insurance, transportation of your car within the States to and from the track and your race entry fee. This will leave you to book your own flights and accommodation to suit your budget, time and any exploring plans you might have.
Saturday 25th/Sunday 26th November 2023, Sebring International Raceway.
For those of you who race with us at Daytona, you also have the option to keep your car and equipment in Florida for a few more weeks, and take part in races that headline with the HSR Classic 12 hours of Sebring. A few hours further south from Daytona, Sebring is a unique, multi-surface track with a spectacular racing heritage stretching back to the 1950's. We intend to offer this optional package to members to include transportation of your car and equipment from Daytona, storage nearby, your Sebring race entry fee, then packaging it all up and back to the port for the journey home. This allows you the freedom to fly back across the Atlantic after Daytona, to return for more winter sunshine during the preceding week of build up and action. The video below gives you a hint of what the track offers:
We aim to tell you which specific day and venue each series will race at later in November, along with which events we plan to live stream. Later in December, once Motorsport UK permits have been received, we will open registrations for the new season.
Marshals and Officials, we will contact you shortly to invite you to volunteer with us, we'd love to welcome you. For now, please add these dates to your 2022 (and 2023) diaries, but please be aware that dates and details can change at any time, should a circuit require us to do so.
The calendar is now updated here: https://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/race-calendar.
Looks like another Cracker of a Calendar, I wish the CSCC had been in being when I was at a younger age!! ATB Ian Hall.
