On behalf of the office team and Committee, we wish you all a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas break. The office is now closed and re-opens again on Thursday 2nd January. In the meantime, we hope you'll understand that this is the one time of year we can forget about racing to focus on family, so won't be answering questions (this includes on social media).
Thank you to those of you who have already registered or renewed. Hannah and Jo will begin processing these in January and will reply and confirm then.
What's coming up next.
Silverstone Track Day, 25th February. https://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/track-day Our pre-season, International track day is fast approaching 2/3rds full (based on the sensible numbers we plan to run). The Rev-Up/Prosolve online entry system is currently down for maintenance, so you can enter using a pdf form in the meantime. If you are coming along, don't forget to contact Advantage Motorsport for fire extinguisher servicing and Adams & Page for tyres, as they will both be there.
Silverstone Season Starter, 8th/9th March. We plan to open entries to our first race meeting in the early part of w/c 6th January, before the team leave for the show. Watch out for an email when the office re-opens, with specific details.
Autosport Show, 9th - 12th January, NEC, stand 3375.
We have booked a modest stand, highlighting the move to stand-alone races for the Ramair BMW Championship, in 2025. An R56 MINI will be on display, to promote the three, revitalised classes that modern BMW MINI's can race within the championship.
Please come and chat to Hugo, David and Hannah, together with various category representatives dropping in each day.
Race Retro Show, 21st - 23rd February, Stoneleigh, stand 2-204. https://www.raceretro.com/
We felt it was important to have a presence at this show once again, but with costs high, we think club funds are best utilised in other ways. Therefore, we have kept our stand space small, although you won't be able to miss us, with a beautiful car chosen to represent the Lackford Engineering Midget & Sprite Challenge and Adams & Page Swinging 60s Series.
Please come and chat to Hugo, David and Hannah, together with various category representatives dropping in each day.
Hi there boys and girls,
As I contemplate my 48th continuous race season, I thought I would ask how everyone’s winter rebuilds are going? My guess is that there are still several cars in or on the trailers from the last meeting, whilst the remainder are in a thousand pieces, spread across the garage floor (should you be lucky enough to have a garage that is).
I want to bring your attention to MSUK’s recent missive regarding proposed rule changes.
One of them is to make flameproof balaclavas now mandatory (from 2025), with flameproof underwear mandatory for 2026.
The other is to omit the word ‘deliberate’ from the rule regarding crowding a vehicle beyond the edge of the track.
Now I need to make it very clear that the following are my personal views, and not necessarily shared by the directors or committee.
I’ve never understood why you wouldn’t want to wear a balaclava, why would you want to put your head back into a sweaty helmet! Likewise, why wouldn’t you want an extra layer of flameproof underwear, even on a hot day? However, should this be a personal preference, or should it be mandated?
Taking the word ‘deliberate’ out of the rule regarding crowding of vehicles beyond the edge of the track removes a fundamental argument for a driver. How do you defend a sudden snap of oversteer or push of understeer, that accidentally runs you into the path of another vehicle, to a clerk who may possibly have never been in that situation?
If you have strong opinions on either of these two issues, please make sure you write in to raceconsultation@motorsportuk.org and I would appreciate it if you could copy me in on your replies to jkh123@btinternet.com. I would be interested in knowing your thoughts on these points (but please email MSUK as well), or anything else you would like to discuss (stands back for avalanche of comments)!
So, with Christmas fast approaching, and our track day at Silverstone only 10 weeks away, it’s back into the workshop, or maybe the pub to talk tactics!
Oh, and don’t forget to come and see us on our stands at the Autosport Show and/or Race Retro.
A big thank you to all our members for your much appreciated support, the thousands of volunteers, Marshals and Officials that make this fabulous sport function and a very Merry Christmas and successful New Year to you all,
Kindest Regards
John Hammersley, CSCC Chairman (anyone seen that 10mm socket….?)
